My Poetry

Canyon Prayer

Sipping coffee on my friend’s patio,

The morning chill prickling my arms,

I gaze up canyon.

Vermillion and cream cliff command the sky,

Creating a sense of awe and wonder:

All is right with the world this day.

Morning scent of dew on sagebrush tickles my nose,

As the fountain sings it’s never ending song.

Standing still in the moment, a humming bird

Ignores my presence, sipping

Methodically from each crimson bell of

Cactus flower, so close I see

The iridescence of wing and throat.

I gaze, transfixed in a flawless moment,

Interrupted, finally, by a stealthy, crashing sound.

Turning, I am breathless at the sight of doe,

Eating brush.

Morning grace blesses me, perfection in wing and pelt.

I am filled with love and gratitude.

Thank you for this perfect canyon morning.
